Artifacts & versions

An artifact is one deliverable — a monthly report, a dashboard, a deck. Each artifact has:

  • a title shown to the client,
  • a fixed format: HTML, PDF or Markdown,
  • an optional type: report, dashboard, presentation, website mockup or insight,
  • an optional reporting period shown to the client (for example September 2026),
  • an optional client, spaces and team-only tags,
  • any number of versions.
Format Extensions Rendered as
HTML .html, .htm The document itself, in a sandboxed frame. Self-contained reports can use inline styles and scripts.
PDF .pdf An in-page PDF viewer.
Markdown .md, .markdown Converted to HTML. Raw HTML and unsafe links are stripped.

The format is chosen when the artifact is created and can’t change. Every version must match it. Files can be up to 25 MB.

Every upload — from the app or an AI tool — becomes a numbered version (v1, v2, …) that never changes. SnowDots records each version’s size and SHA-256 checksum and checks that the file really is a valid document of its format before accepting it.

To change a report, upload a new version. The artifact keeps its full history, and comments remember which version they were left on.

  • From an AI tool — see Upload workflow.
  • In the app — open Artifacts, create one, then upload a file to add a version.

You can rename an artifact and change its type, reporting period, client, spaces and tags at any time from its page.

Open an artifact to preview any of its versions. Previews are served from short-lived signed URLs on a separate, cookie-free route, so a document can never reach your SnowDots session.

Status Meaning
Draft Being worked on. Not visible through any share link.
In review A version was submitted and is waiting for a publisher.
Published One version is live; share links show it.
Archived Put away. Can be restored. Archived artifacts can’t be published.

See Review & publishing for how artifacts move between these.

The Artifacts list can be filtered and sorted, and the search bar searches across the agency. Tags (up to 20 per artifact) help the team group work and are never shown to clients.
